Retrograde extrapolation is the scientific process used by prosecutors and law enforcement to estimate what a person’s blood alcohol content was at a specific time based on test results obtained at a later period of time. This is used by law enforcement in DUI cases to attempt to accurately measure the BAC of a person at the time of driving rather than the time at which the test took place.
